why do democrats lose?

It's that time of year, the MSM is salivating over the percieved weakness of Republicans heading into the midterms and Democrats, as always, are eating it up. They believe. The "Culture of Corruption" campaign the national dems have such high hopes for is crumbling with the Jefferson and Mollahan scandals which will be in full flower around November but that doesn't matter because they believe.

The CA 50 race was to be the harbinger of Republican failures in the fall...then they held the election. Nowhere was "republican fatigue" supposed to be more evident than the home district of Duke Cunningham, poster boy for Republican malfeasance yet Democrats lost. And it was a huge loss for the them. It was their last opportunity to ride a wave of success into the fall and with the help of their friends in the media it would have been the second coming of FDR and JFK for the next six months.

So why can't dems catch a break? Why are they fighting over prime real estate out there in the wilderness? Three things.

Firstly, they are wrong. The current batch of liberals running the Democrat party simply cannot stop the hard left turn of the last few years, with each electoral failure the kook base gets more voluble and the leaders, such as they are, listen to them. As we speak, the hard left is having a "YearlyKos" meeting of the kook fringe in Las Vegas and almost every Democrat of note is out there kowtowing to the unwashed hippies of the internet.

The failures of socialism and communism over the last hundred years have not gone unnoticed by most people but for the left, it's just a matter of the wrong people trying to implement these great philosophical concepts and if we would just listen to them they could create a utopia...this time.

Which brings us to the second failing of liberalism, elitism. Liberals genuinely believe they are superior, this belief is their core, it's as inseparable from them as breathing. When you slip on that warm cloak of liberalism, you become elite too! Even if you're a drooling social misfit, clinging to the fringes of reality, once you become a liberal you're one of the kool kidz...at last. Regardless of their situation in life, scratch a liberal and a huge ego will invariably reveal itself. Understanding this about liberals makes it easy to understand how they truly believe they know best how you should live your life.

The third and most telling reason liberals have built permanent housing in the wilderness is their complete inability to recognise the first two. Liberals are right. Their ideas are settled and simply can't be questioned. If you disagree, you are evil or stupid and in either case, you prove the superiority of liberalism.

Liberals have a hundred reasons they lose elections and not one of them is their fault. The never, ever acknowledge that their failures might be directly related to who they are.

why do liberals hate america?

Nothing elicits more screams of rage than accusing a liberal of hating America. I won't present the case here, if you're conservative you know the evidence, if you're a liberal you'll deny it to your dying day in spite of the evidence. But why do they hate America?

Liberals hate competence. Competent people don't need what liberals have to offer...someone to tell incompetent people what to think and do. At it's core, America is the most competent nation on earth, our research, our culture, our work ethic, our military keep the rest of the world in the game. Without the stability and protection the US provides, the world would descend into barbaric tribalism within thirty years....to be continued....

the silent dog

Where's all the press coverage of the Robert's Supreme Court? Why haven't we heard on the 6:00 news that five of eight decisions have been unanimous? Why arent we hearing the Friday meetings have changed from the Justicies merely indicating how they intend to vote to having to explain the law behind their decisions?

These are golden days at the SC and the press is totally silent...

ports

There's no question allowing the UAE company to operate the ports is both legal and ethical. There isn't a single US port operated by a US company so it's hard to complain on that score. The UAE has been a steadfast friend in the WOT and simply doesn't deserve to be treated like this. I'll leave the hubris of liberals who are against the sale for another post but I must say their lack of consistency is breathtaking.

Sell the operation of the ports to our allies and let's end this embarrassment.

the face of evil

This is it folks, fifty years of liberal domination of the SCOTUS, legislating from the bench and the most purile of anti-Americanism is ending and the old relic in that picture doesn't like it one bit. After three days of liberal insults, aspersions and lies, Alito is making them look like the fools they are. You go Teddy.

men and women...

This afternoon, I had my head in a six gallon popcorn can happily shoveling the last tasty leavings into my mouth with the easy rythym and joy of a cow with her first fresh cud of spring.

I was given the popcorn as a Christmas gift on the 15th and today removed the paper separator and mixed the remaining contents of the three sections, cheese, butter and caramel into a glorious melange of flavors and consistencies with mostly bits of popcorn mixed with the few surviving full buds of popped corn goodness.

As my head was in the bucket, I realized if I were married I probably wouldn't be doing this. Women seem to have standards of conduct below which, they will not go and make every effort to prevent others around them from decending to those depths as well. I truly believe it's the mothering instinct. Like a mother bear teaches her offspring to nail a tasty salmon as it leaps upstream, human females attempt to impart proper conduct to their offspring as they navigate upstream in life and also any errant adult males who happen within their purview.

One day, I'll share the Sunday paper again but for right now, I'm enjoying the popcorn.

the craven left

I knew we had a serious problem with the American left while watching the spectacle of Paul Wellstone's funeral. The strained, forced jollity on the faces of Clinton, Harken and the others who had been told by their handlers that the mans death was actually an opportunity to garner votes and to turn it into a political pep rally rather than the funeral of one of their own. Who, in the name of God had such a tin ear that they thought it would be OK to bring campaign signs to a funeral? The disjointed feeling one got from watching the top Democratic officials clap and hop around was surreal.

As I have discussed before, the American left are no longer American in the sense of love of country or any of that ante-modern pap, they answer only to naked power and whatever means necessary to achieve it. It's hard to comprehend the lengths they will go to in their quest. The politicization of Katrina was like a kick in the stomach. An area the size of England laid waste and all the left press and politicians can think of is here's an opportunity to smash Bush. I simply don't have words for people like that.

It was an almost perfect liberal disinformation campaign. Ignore the actual malfeasance by Democrat state and local officials and magnify the manufactured sins of Bush's FEMA as the actual villian and keep hammering that meme from a thousand different venues. War is peace, peace is war. The East are our friends, the East is our enemy.

Make no mistake about it, the MSM is not dead. They were able to develop and promote this canard with lightning speed as only those unbound by a need for truth can be. Deflection, diffusion and out right lies are the stock in trade of those for whom power is all there is.

American liberals mean us harm. The next Democrat administration will tie us to the UN with a thousand treaties, soveriegnty will be a charming memory as we "check with the UN" before acting in our self interest or allowing the UN to decide what is our self interest. Unable to promote their agenda legislatively, they've used the courts for 40 years to give us abortion on demand, racial and gender preferences and ecological insanity that masks an anti-business agenda.

Seriously, the only thing between a world mired in socialism and what small freedom still exists in the world today is the American Republican party, such as it is. Sixty three million Americans have given the Republicans one last chance to make a difference before it's to late. So, what to do.

Politcs:

Recognise liberals are not just Americans with a different outlook on life, they are actively attempting to destroy our judiciary, legislative process and our electoral process. The reason they hate electronic voting so much is as they found in Florida in 2000, if you can't touch it, you can't steal it. Do you think Oregon was a fluke? As evidenced by the 10,000 lawyers in place in Ohio, if an election can be stolen, it will be. All the while accusing Republicans of what they are actually doing.

We need to end the filibuster now and spend the next three and a half years filling the federal courts and the SC with solid constitutionalists (if we can find them) who will have thirty years to undo some of the idiocy that's been done over the last fourty years. We need to recognise the methods liberals use to subvert our elections and point them out publically, over and over. We need to quit being polite and surprised when an Oregon happens, election theft became a part of the liberal arsenal after they realized they could get away with it in the 2000 presidential race.

Republicans should have filled Oregon with operatives, money and publicity, we look weak because we didn't. Republicans need to form a massive public relations department ot counter the power of the MSM and to react to every single move liberals make. It may be our last chance, the left has become so depraved the next time they take power, I genuinley don't believe they'll give it up.

Education:

Stop funding them. Stop donations to colleges that have "speech codes", who emphasize multiculturism and all the other leftwing propaganda devices. Recognise K-12 and universities have become little more than leftwing indoctrintion centers. Republicans need to become deeply involved in the educational process at every level, finance, book selection, course selection, teacher qualifications and testing. Stop half stepping, recognise the problems, formulate plans and change the way education works in America today.

The Media:

Stop funding them. Actually the deconstruction of the MSM is one of the few bright spots in America today. The Internet has begun a process of destruction that can't be stopped unless the democrats can find a way to shut it off. What was it Hillary Clinton said; "all those people out there writing whatever they want with no control at all". Yes, Mrs. Clinton, it's called freedom.

The New York Times and the big three networks controlled access to information for thirty years. If it was on the front page of the NYT that morning, it led on all three networks that night. The news was a single voice and that voice was liberal. The high water mark for the media was the destruction of Richard Nixon, had Nixon been a Democrat, the burglary would have been buried on page 20. Then cable came along, then Fox then the MSM death knell, the internet with "all those people out there writing whatever they want with no control at all" and many of the things they wrote were debunking what the MSM was saying.

It isn't over yet, the viciousness and speed of the Katrina attack proves that but I belive we could be closer to the end of the MSM than the beginning, they simply can't stand the sunshine the Internet brings.

It may be too late or perhaps not but if we don't start making a serious attempt to correct our course, we'll be speaking Chinese in fifty years.

is the left out of steam?

After an unprecedented media onslaught, the president emerges from Katrina with only 13%of the population believing he was somehow responsible for anything to do with the storm or it's aftermath. The screeching began even while the storm still wreaked it's havoc and continues to this minute but it isn't sticking. The media was as heavily invested in destroying the president over this as anything they did leading up to the election. (say, whatever happened to that 280 tons of stolen explosives?)

Which brings me to the Supreme Court nominations. These same breathless hysterics will be applied to whoever the second nominee will be, will it be with the same result? Has the left media cried wolf too many times? Look at the face of the New York Times...Paul Krugman...Maureen Dowd...Bob Herbert, caricatures of shrill, out of touch, out of control hard leftwingers.

Who could take them seriously anymore?

economics, liberals and energy

Economics aren't liberals strong suite. They see the world as a zero sum game, if someone wins, someone is losing. If the rich get rich, it's by taking money from the poor which, of course, is a childlike misunderstanding of basic economics.

A liberal thinks there is a finite number of dollars and If I get 50 cents of a dollar, there's only fifty cents left for someone else. The concept of trillions of dollars in cash, goods and services swirling in a never ending dance of trade makes their heads hurt. Money moving creates more money, where does the money that interest on money creates come from? If I were a rich man and I spend money how can I be sure that one of those despicable poor people won't get it?

I would like to see a well every 50 feet in ANWR (where 99.999% of Americans will never go) and rigs as far as the eye can see off the coast of California (ban sea otters) and Florida and any other damn state that has oil anywhere near it. I want to see the price of gas drop because we've built too many refineries (no new refineries in 30 years) and competition is killing them. I want to see 100 new nuclear power plants under (build Yucca) construction. I want to see a billion dollars spent on clean coal research and I want liberal sightings to be safe and rare (like abortions).

and so it begins

The left has failed in the arena of ideas, in winning elections and convincing the American people of the validity of their positions. But being liberals, they know best and the only avenue left to them to force their creaky old agenda on you is the judiciary.

The courts have brought us abortion on demand, destruction of education and a host of destructive envionmental court rulings. The courts trump the voter and the voter's elected legislations.

But has the left cried wolf once too many times? Is the methodology of the Bolton battle still too fresh in the minds of Americans to be effective on an as yet unnamed nominee? When that liberal female comes out otf the woodwork thirty years later to claim: A. sexual harrassment, B. hostile work enviornment, C. whatever the left feels will work in destroying the nominee, will it just sound like more leftwing hype? Why yes, I believe it will.

The left will lose this battle. And in the process will lose yet more of their tattered credibility. It's going to be fun to watch.

howard dean, a true democrat

Howard Dean's immaturity is a mirror image of the immaturity of the current crop of Democrats who have allowed the internet to destroy the Democratic party. Dean's success at fund raising and the success of internet based groups like MoveOn.org has confused and disorganized the power structure to the point of immobility.

Because of the confusion, Howard Dean is allowed to continually rant and say things that are almost guaranteed to keep the Democratic party in the wilderness for the first half of the 21st century. How can a major political party support a leader who accuses his opponents of being "mostly white christians" as though that's a bad thing?

Can you even comprehend what Dean is doing to the vast majority of middle American Democrats who aren't insane? The wild eyed lefty base loves him but what about traditional Democrats out there trying to raise a family, make a living, be a part of society without confrontation or conflict? What does Howard Dean offer them?

Nothing, and Ken Mehlman knows it.

what mobility really means

One of the basic tenents of being a liberal is elitism. That doesn't mean they actually are elite but they genuinely believe they are. Liberals believe in a class system. Where none existed, they are trying mightily to see that one goes in place.

The New York Times is running a series on "social mobility", the point of which is to prove that you'll stay in the "class" you were born in, you have no chance of moving up, being successful or, in other words, you just shouldn't even try.

This series is presented, as is most of the political indoctrination by the Times, as a serious study of society with undeniable conclusions which must be given great weight by it's intended audience, the media, for dessemination to the rest of us.

One of the bains of the left's existence has been Americans belief in the American Dream, if they work hard, play by the rules they too can become rich with just a little luck. Horatio Alger is a part of the American psyche. As a result of this strong belief in the possibilities of America, the great unwashed have been loath to assume their designated roll in the left's desired class structure.

But consider the ramifications if the Times were to succeed in convincing Joe Sixpack he had no chance of ever becoming any more than his father was. Class warfare would finally become the reality the left has longed for. Joe Sixpack would finally realize his lot lay with his liberal betters and would finally support the runious legislation, taxation and central control against "the rich" long dreamed of by our intellectually stunted friends on the left.

And they really believe that.

kerry one point below bush

No particular reason for this post, Kerry finally released his school records, not that anyone cares at this point, but I just had to post that picture. There's simply no doubt why they wouldn't release them during the campaign, that picture alone would have driven off the most deranged liberal supporter.

What could possibly have been going through that boy's mind?

a picture of white liberal self-hatred

"Hideously white" Bob Geldorf has called for a million lefty march to protest the utter ineffebleness of it all. He's apparently in a twitter that everyone isn't doing exactly as he wants or some damn thing. You read it and see it it makes any sense to you.

enviro-wackos embrace nuclear power

When threatened with the prospect of a less comfortable lifestyle, enviro-wackos have decided that favorite old target, nuclear power isn't so bad after all...it's for the children don't you know.

What do you mean there'll be a shortage of plaid shirts and Prius batteries??? Oh, OK, drill offshore in California and Florida, what do I care, just don't touch my spotted owls and whales (unless it somehow affects me personally).

It'll get smaller and faster but this is what we've been waiting for, at least us geeks have. I love this stuff.

newsweek kills 16 with false report

window to isikoff's soul

It was just another Bush Bash to Isikoff. One more story of the perfidity of George Bush's America. Sure, it wasn't true but the goal was lofty, the daily Bush suxs story, had to be done.

It's just unfortunate thousands of moslems took it that seriously and sixteen of them died and hundreds more were injured but what the hell, it worked. The US lost ground in the battle for the hearts and minds of the people of the middle east and Isikoff is proud.

For those of you too stupid to live, the foregoing is a parody. Why do assholes like Evan Thomas and Isikoff even have jobs?

God, I love blogging, before I would have suffered in silence at this kind of murderous leftwing mischief but now, if one person who didn't know about this vileness learns of it here and flips the switch on the MSM, I'll have won, not those assholes.

I rarely use bad language here but asshole is accurately descriptive in this instance and had to be used. thanks to PowerLine for the heads up.

huffington post - deliciously awful

Wouldn't it be nice if government cut the biblical cord and all the closeted homophobes had the moth balls to admit to their damp dreams of getting into SpongeBob’s Square Pants?

Larry Gelbart

This is even better than I could have possibly dreamed. Every cliche about stupid left coast liberals is on display for all to see, marvel about and enjoy . It's been said the hard left exists in a bubble surrounded by the echos of other equally delusional inmates with no exposure to the real world and the musings of Gelbart and Rob Reiner prove the therory. I guess when you're a Rob or a Larry, no one around you ever says...jeeez, Larry, you're kind of a dumbass aren't you?

This is some painful stuff folks...

The so-called fourth estate is now little more than the public relations arm of a government propaganda machine in which all three branches are controlled by the same political party. Who is watching the store?

Rob Reiner

Meathead actually believes the MSM in America is controlled by evil Republicans. When that's your basis of thought, how can you hope to be taken seriously? Yet, they wonder how it's possible for them to be out of power.

I for one will be reading daily with that same guilty feeling you get when looking at a car wreck long after you should have moved on.

they worship oprah

Liberals genuinely feel superior to you. Even if you are a liberal yourself, there are other liberals who have you categorized, catalogued and labeled and feel ever so superior to you. Even the most slack jawed, craven inmate at the Democratic Underground genuinely feels superior to everyone who ever pulled the lever for a Republican.

The elitism of the left has the nasty overtones of racism reminescent of the darkest days of jim crow, if you were a slack jawed, craven white you were able to feel superior to the most successful and educated black because, well, you were white. Pretty much the same justification exists for the elitism of the left today, well, we're...uh...liberals.

As a conservative, I genuinely believe you are capable of making decisions for yourself. If you want a gun, get the proper training and get it. I think you know better how to spend your money than the government does, how to raise your family, and all the other decisions that liberals, in their superiority, want to make for you.

But then, in the grocery store last night, I find that Oprah is the god of the aliens. I think how can my fellow citizens be so stupid as to believe this tripe? A delicious sense of superiority swept over me, for a moment, I felt the allure of liberalism, it feels really good to feel superior for even the most specious of reasons.

Ruminating further, I realized I don't know anyone that stupid even in my wide ranging circle of aquaintances, people that stupid probably don't have the buck twenty-five to buy the thing. I wanted to turn the page myself to continue basking in my self-annointed superiority but not to the point of springing the buck twenty-five.

But it is fun to be ever so superior and tell myself only Democrats would buy that pap, after all they can't even figure out how to use a ballot or where their polls are...sniff..

celebs who blog

Arianna Huffington is creating a star studded blog with a leftwing tilt that will surely topple Drudge (ed. I thought sploid was going to topple drudge) with the assembled "creative minds" that in many cases proved to be so effective in the last election.

One cringes at the prospect of some of these folks actually writing down what passes for thought on the left coast but the entertainment value of the potential massive embarassment will more than compensate for the fleeting sympathy felt for them.

We can only hope for musings that will equal those of Barbra Streisand in intelligence, writing skills and use of language.

Let the fun begin.

huevos rancheros

As my regular readers (that guy in italy) have surmised, sunday breakfast is an important part of my week, a time of relaxation and enjoyment and time with friends. This week the fire and excitement of huevos rancheros calls me to the kitchen to try my hand at this mexican delicacy.

The link gives a tasty looking recipe but naturally, I will experiment and "improve" with whatever I can find in the kitchen but I think the main point is to end up with a red and yellow mess on the plate and watering eyes. I'm off!

need an über-portable laptop?

Dell is offering one of those insane $750.00 off coupons on Inspirons right now, V9WTJSQFFJVFST is the magic number through April 26 or 8000 uses, enjoy.

cowardly republicans

Thirty years ago, it took character to be a Repulican. Democrats dominated the political side, the media, education and the judiciary. Democrats were a majority in the electorate, to be a Republican was a matter of belief and character because if you wanted to "get ahead" you became a Democrat.

As a result of the dominance of Democrats in those days, they got all the charlatans, thieves, and men of low character because they went where the votes were, if you wanted to win, you were a Democrat. If Bill Clinton were starting out today, he'd be a Republican. But because of the excesses and weaknesses of thirty years of Democrats things are beginning to change. Republicans have not only an opportunity to undo those years of judicial rule, they have a responsibility to do so.

But here we are. Based on the timidity of Republicans concerning Bolton and the filibuster rule we apparently have elected people who are terrified to use the power we've given them.

I still think it's the Republican century, maybe just not this bunch.

all's well aboard the USS Clueless

I follow with interest the left's interminable self analysis about their receding power, influence and relevance. Carville and Begala's latest echos all that's been said after and since the last election, things that simply don't ring true with those who are uninfected with BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome).

I believe that C&B genuinely believe that Iraq is "disaster", I also believe that if Clinton had done exactly the same thing they would believe it was the beginning of a peace in the middle east unknown for a thousand years and be sincere about it. Point being, they are so eaten up with demogoguery they simply can't can't separate fact from fiction and to their everlasting detriment, the average American can.

The core problem for the left is they've simply stopped being Americans. They've "evolved" from such provincial restrictions and can no longer connect with those of us so bourgeois as to love our country. They have far more in common with the uber-bureaucrats at the UN and in Paris and in Bonn than Americans.

I don't think this generation of the left will ever return to power. There's a young man or woman out there, watching their elders implode who will return the left to the table with a different outlook, attitude and ideas and it won't be a moment too soon.

oh, canada

Like many european nations in the sixty years since the end of World War Two, Canada has devolved into a country run by petty bureaucrats squabbling over the deconstruction of a formerly great nation.

A country that was a heroic giant in that war now contents itself with petulantly calling us bastards and complaining about our overbearing power, all the while basking in the rock hard certainty we will protect them against all enemies, except themselves.

The path the europeans and Canada have taken under the absolute freedom provided by American taxpayers those six decades is interesting. They've developed nanny states funded by the money they didn't have to spend on defense (or defence, in case you've forgotten how to spell it) and through lack of responsibility for themselves, have become like angst filled teenagers, rebelling against the 'rents, all the while living on mom and dad's money.

Reading this over, looking for an end, I realized I just don't care. Old Europe and the Canadians have become like puppies that pee the carpet, you can't get mad at them, they're just doing what puppies do.

brought to you by the LA Times

garafolo, air america heroine

Maybe that 5.5% decline in circulation is sinking in...nah.

south park conservatives

Things really are changing. Tucker Carlson has a show on PBS for jimminy's sake. The boys at Powerline deconstruct the Washington Post's take on the mysterious outbreak of democracy in the middle east with a biting commentary that veers between sarcasm and bemused humor.

Can you imagine the gnashing of teeth, wringing of hands and spraying of spittle the MSM experiences every time a blog rips apart what would have been an unquestioned story even three years ago? Can you imagine all the "stories" they aren't publishing?

Yes, it's better and battles are being won but the war isn't over. I was watching a documentary on Ted Bundy on the History channel they referred to him as a "conservative student". Wonder what Jeffery Dahmer was?

sunday breakfasts past

Years ago, Sunday morning meant a languid coffee wakeup, a session with the papers and then about mid-morning, brunch with friends at Ruggles. And for me, brunch at Ruggles meant eggs benedict. Ah, the tart hollandaise, the perfectly toasted english muffin, that odd American invention canadian bacon and a poached egg the size of a tennis ball ready to spill it's yellow innards to amplify the richness of the sauce.

That, and several rounds of bloody marys, mimosas and good conversation was the perfect cap to the week.

Unfortunately, in these cold first years of the 21st century, alcohol and cholesterol are limited by a desire to continue living, newspapers have been replaced by the internet and no one does brunch anymore. Well...I still have my coffee.

By way of rebellion,I think I shall start working my way down this list of recipes, you only live once.

NYT fails to nail DeLay

I think the tipping point in the decline of the Times influence was the US Masters kerfuffle over allowing female members. The intensity, ferocity and sheer idiocy of that quixotic quest played out before a bemused nation which was left wondering whether a rich white lady being able to hang with a bunch of rich white guys was really worth the massive expenditure of effort and credibility on the Times part.

Back in the good old days, an attack by the Washington Post or NY Times was a guaranteed career ender for Republicans. Remember Nixon, had he been a Democrat, the break-in would have been a page 22 non-issue.

No longer, the internet has arrived and each lame charge against DeLay is almost languidly debunked by blogs who have made their bones on prey like Dan Rather, Howell Raines and the hapless CNN news president (his name slips my mind) who wanted to impress his euro buddies at davos.

What’s that you say? The LA Times circulation is down 5.5 percent?

irs blogging

Cell phone cameras, wireless internet, what could be more fun than this? This was the scene at my local post office as I dropped off my pound of flesh, me and these two. There were more PO employees milling around than tax payers but the lady assured me it was the lull before the storm, I'm sure she was right.

destruction of norms

The Schiavo case was one small battle in the unrelenting effort to alter what is acceptable in our society. We blurred the line between being on life support and being unable to feed yourself and the threshold required to determine the difference.

George Will, a man of exquisite conscience who you should read at every opportunity, discusses the phenomenon from the other end of life, using science to determine which children are born. Black hair? No, better abort.

It’ll become normal.

more naked germans...

Unbeknownst to me, there’s an entire sub-culture of naked german activity on the internet. An alert reader directed my attention to several instances of naked german sightings including this thousand strong showing during a heat wave in 2003.

You can rest assured portapundit will stay atop the naked german situation and continue to report this possibly dangerous trend.

Our old friend, Anonymous, had taken exception to to my post mentioning Jeff Jarvis, Gawker and money in the same sentence. So, anon, here's a link wherein Mr. Jarvis discusses being a "business colleague" of Nick Denton. Your assignment anon...find out the nature of this "colleagueness" and report back to the legions of portapundit readers desperate for details of this "business".

the asian century

Forty years of destruction of education in America will take it's toll in the 21st century. The ravages of the NEA, multiculturalism and my personal favorite, women's studies are not the stuff of greatness.

The budding alliance of China and India which, according to China and India, portend a century of Asian dominance in finance, technology and perhaps militarily, has a chance of being just that except that India will never trust China.

There are marriages of convienience and this could be very successful if the price India has to pay isn't too high. Time will tell but one thing is certain, the politically correct nuthouse that higher education has become in America is an affectation we can no longer afford if we are to compete.

I confess...I watch MTV

I'm watching Cameron Diaz' new show in which she and various Hollywood types travel the world loving primitive cultures with that ineffable "Gorillas in the Mist" anthropological superiority that liberals exude anytime they come in contact with the little people (or red state conservatives).

Tonight's episode has she and her crew in Patagonia shearing sheep (muy giggles) and being ever so earnest about a proposed aluminium plant which would be the only heavy industry in the area. Our budding enviros are campaigning against it because it would make a pristine area ugly and probably pollute 'n all.

The locals are standing around Miss Diaz, no teeth, in rags, sharing everything they have but Miss Diaz doesn't want them to have an opportunity to improve their lives because when she gets back to her comfortable life in California she doesn't want to have to think about that ugly aluminium plant pooting in the air back in Patagonia where she'll never go again.

God save us from liberals.

What must it be like to be a leftist and see success after success by a man who is the antithesis of your very soul? It seems for a certain segment of the left for whom religion is childish fantasy, replace the faith and fervor of religion with faith and fervor in political beliefs only to see all hope dashed over and over, soul searing stuff. Does clarity ever come even for a moment? (hat tip to J. Kerry for the soul searing stuff)

100 naked germans...

"It's not pleasant, it's not sensual and it's not beautiful," Beecroft told Reuters.

I have nothing against the odd pudgy naked lady but this exceeds even my need to know. One can only hope it was before a luncheon of brats and cabbage.

free the portapundit nine!

Somehow, against all odds, nine hardy internet voyagers managed to find portapundit yesterday, our first day of operation. They didn't stay long and they haven't been back but we appreciate it all the same.

sunday morning bangers...

The scrambled eggs sound good...with maybe just a hint of Tabasco sauce. The level of detail EU bureaucrats are capable of is breathtaking. Could I get a side of skeletal attached muscle meat and a couple of avian birth units over easy?

sploid.com...portapundit.com

Spawned the same day. One more lefty site and one more righty site, but they're better funded. In fact, it's brought to you by the fine folks at Gawker, who fund Jeff Jarvis, Wonkette and assorted other "internet enterprises". On my first visit, I found out that tens of thousands of Iraqi Shi'ites want the Great Satan outta there with an accompanying graphic showing GWB sporting horns and fangs.

Unlike portapundit, I don't think subtlety is one of the goals of the editors at sploid. This is supposed to be yet another Drudge toppler.

One of the greatest things Republicans have going for them is the unwavering belief of the left that all they have to do is just say the same things louder and more often and in more ways and all the "little people" will come back to them. They simply don't understand the Democrat reality of the second half of the 20th century is over.

portapundit...how derivative is that?

Yeah well, I'm paying nine bucks a year for the domain so I'm going to use it. This is my first entry and possibly my last as I have the attention span of a three year old (guppy, child, cat, Buick, you get the idea). My intention is to post about things that interest me and hopefully you as well but if not, at least one of us will be happy.

There'll be politics, computers, cars, vintage Rolex, photography and absolutely nothing about nanotechnology. I'm completely mobile as I have my "Glenn Reynolds Junior Blogger Starter Kit", a Dell 700m with Verizon National Wireless Broadband so expect lots of blogging from mundane places. Mr. Reynolds, I'm not actually stalking you, I mean , what with the blog name, computer and wireless, well, maybe I stole the name thing but I would have had the other stuff anyway.

Had I started this blog last week for example, I could have Starbucks blogged during the interminable four hours I had to spend in one in Newark, New Jersey (don't ask). At any rate, I'm already bored with this post so I'll punch the publish button and finally, my name will be in lights.
